"Guardians of the Galaxy" Stars Landing in Singapore for Red Carpet Premiere

YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!

So many superheroes, mutants and aliens are dropping by the Red Dot Island these days.

Just when you thought you flew back into a future past, folks from Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" are set to land their feet here in a couple of weeks!!

It is making Red Dot Diva wonder if that asymmetrical flower-shape structure stationed below the ship-building at Marina Bay is actually a beacon to stars in galaxies beyond.

If news haven't gotten around to you yet, Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista as well as director James Gunn will be walking down the red carpet on 12 July (Sat) at Shaw Centre. (Updated 30 June: Expected time - 6:30 PM. Now you know what time to camp out!)

HBO Asia Set to Scare Viewers with Original Mini-Series "Grace" this Halloween!

At Halloween this year, tune in and get spooky with HBO Asia!

The cable channel has just announced the October 17, 2014 premiere date for new horror mini-series "Grace", a four-part story fully conceptualized and developed by HBO Asia. This is the company's first original mini-series.

"Grace" is set in current day urban Asia and is about an unspeakable horror faced by a family due to a father's mistake. Ooooohhh... Red Dot Diva wonders what horrible boo-boos did Daddy commit. According to HBO Asia, "the Asian views concerning family, sacrifice and vengeance" will be examined in the mini-series.

The Singapore Philatelic Museum Goes Postal For Batman 75th Anniversary!

The Singapore Philatelic Museum puts the pop-culture cool back into snail mail stamps, as it kicked off celebrations for the 75th Anniversary of Batman earlier this month.

The theme of the birthday celebration for the Dark Knight was "The League Against Evil: A DC Comics Super Heroes Exhibition", and was organized in collaboration with Warner Brothers Consumer Products, DC Entertainment and Pacific Licensing Studio.

Having missed out on the launch of the exhibit on 5 June because it was RDD Diva-Mom's birthday (and Diva-Mom *always* takes precedence!), Red Dot Diva managed to carve up some time to take a peek of the exhibit at the museum yesterday. Her friend Vernon, who has never visited the museum before, came along with her.

Live on Yahoo! - World Premiere of "Transformers: Age of Extinction" in Hong Kong tonight!

Tonight, starting from 7:45 PM, Hong Kong is set to be the stage of the World Premiere of "Transformers: Age of Extinction"!

If you have caught the trailer, the action-packed Michael Bay-helmed movie was partially filmed on location in Hong Kong, and with the help of visual effects, the city was heavily demolished by warring giant robots.

"Transformers: Age of Extinction" takes place four years after the last movie - a time when the Autobots and Decepticons have gone underground after being hunted by the government. That is until a mechanic discovered a machine that did not seem to be what it was.

To celebrate the World Premiere, director Michael Bay and cast members Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz and Jack Reyne are set to land on the red carpet in Hong Kong. Joining them and performing on stage will be Grammy Award-winning rock band, Imagine Dragons!

Heroes Reborn: Jack Coleman Set To Return As HRG!

This is the special day for "Heroes" fans around the world.

It has just been officially announced that Jack Coleman will be returning to NBC's "Heroes Reborn" as morally ambiguous Noah Bennett aka HRG (or Horn Rimmed Glasses)!

Jack Coleman has been seen in quite a few TV shows recently. He had a recurring role as the menacing Senator William H. Bracken in "Castle", and played CIA handler Andrew Strong in the last season of "Burn Notice". Although, he has not been away from the TV screens for too long, many "Heroes" fans still sorely miss dangerously sexy HRG.

"Heroes Reborn", a re-imagined 13-episode mini-series of the popular "Heroes" TV show, has been scheduled to premiere in 2015. The show is expected to have new characters and continues to be produced by the original series' creator Tim Kring.

There will also be a digital series that is currently angled as a prequel to "Heroes Reborn", and this will premiere before the show goes on air on NBC.com.

Red Dot Diva Readers' Picks for the Fall Season 2014-2015

The networks in the USA announced their TV schedule for this Fall recently. Being a TV series-loving fiend, Red Dot Diva followed the news with much interest.

Last year, the lineup was about monsters - the werewolves, vampires, zombies and terrifying serial killers. This year, the world of comics and superheroes seems set to overtake the primetime airwaves. Following the box office success of Marvel's superhero movies, like "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "X-Men: Days of Future Past", it seems that fans can't get enough of their favourite comic book characters coming to life on screen. But while Marvel is currently ruling the movie box office, DC Comics is determined to stand its ground in the TV series landscape.

Red Dot Diva polled a small number of her readers online on which new fall TV series they were looking forward to most. Out of a total of 31 respondents, shows based on superheroes were in the top 3 picks.

Here are the Top 5 TV series RDD readers can't wait to get on their gogglebox (in order of Highest Level of Squees to the lowest):

STGCC 2014: Guest Announcements - Humberto Ramos and More Heading Our Way!

And there we have it!

Yesterday, the organizer of the Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention has officially announced the First Flush of Guests for this year!

As in previous editions of the "coolest" (or "hottest" - in Red Dot Diva's opinion - Biceps galore!!) pop-culture convention on the island, there will be guests coming from the East and from the West.

Who are they?

Dallas Comic-Con 2014: Record-Breaking Attendance and Super-Long Lines!

Last month, Red Dot Diva's fellow geeky acquaintance from Texas, Natasha S. Hoover, attended a comic convention that was held at her own backyard. Well, almost!

The Dallas Comic-Con (DCC) - which has been running for about the last 12 years - has recently changed ownership and this year, the event moved to a larger location from Irving Convention Centre to the Dallas Convention Centre.

In line with what's happening at comic conventions around the globe in the last few years, there was a huge increase in attendance numbers for the event which ran from May 16 to 18, 2014. Approximately 45,000 people were said to have attended DCC this year.

Here's Natasha's report for the geeky camaraderie that happened at the convention. It is too bad she did not bring a fancy camera, so all but two of the photos used in the article belong to DCC.

STGCC 2014 - Are Y'All Ready For The Red Dot Island Geek Fever?

It's June!

And that's just about the time when things start rollin' for the biggest local pop-culture event of the year - The Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention (STGCC)!

*glittery Diva happy dance*

This year, the convention will be at the same venue - the convention centre at Marina Bay Sands, and during the weekend of 6-7 September 2014, the entire area will be transformed into geeksville with cosplayers, nerds with geeky t-shirts and stressed-out crew running around making sure the event runs smoothly. Then, there are the creative folks making Artist Alley their mini kingdom for the weekend and lovely convention guests (usually first-timers in Red Dot Island and the South-East Asian region) who are all ready to meet their fans.

From what Red Dot Diva has been told, ticketing for the event will be announced and released for purchase in mid-June (which is very soon!). So she hopes those who are aiming for exclusives, have saved up enough cash to snag those VIP tickets!
