Star Wars Characters and More Arrive in Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition!

Love playing video games? Better still, love playing games *and* consider yourself a total Star Wars fan? Then... *cue John Williams theme song*... the Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition is guaranteed to bring more fun into family or personal gaming time!

Red Dot Diva attended the launch for the popular toy-game hybrid at the Sandcrawler earlier this week. She has to confess that she is not a gamer (personal decision: she gets too easily addicted!), but she still finds the gaming world an extremely creative and imaginative domain.

Mostly though, she fell in love with the Disney Infinity toys on display. *sheepish Diva grin*

They were so well-sculpted, and had these super adorable features, like the determined look sported by Princess Leia:

.... as well as Olaf, whose goofy "I Like Warm Hugs" expression was simply too difficult to ignore.

There were a few game consoles on site so that those attending the launch could have a hand at the new playsets. Being blessed with "wonderful" coordination skills, Red Dot Diva decided to stand by and watch geek pal Jedd try out the games. Here's a clip of Jedd playing as Luke Skywalker riding a Bantha:

Jedd also tried playing as Princess Leia and she looked soooooooooo cute running and jumping around in that long white gown.

At the local launch event, Disney Infinity Producer Jason Moffitt gave the media and guests even more details about 3.0 Edition during his presentation.

There will be three different playsets available for the Star Wars franchise.

The first is called "Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic" which sets the characters like Anakin, Asoka and Yoda from the Clone Wars era all the way to the prequels, with Darth Maul and General Grievous being the main villains. Classic Star Wars lovers would easily find themselves immersing in the "Rise Against the Empire" playset, where one can play as Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Chewbacca or other characters. Later this year, another playset based on the eagerly awaited Episode VII aka "The Force Awakens", will be released. The first two characters announced at D23 for "The Force Awakens" playset are Finn and Rey.

In addition to the Star Wars playsets, a few Star Wars Rebels characters have also joined the Disney Infinity family.

But where's Hera??? :(

There is an impressive number of Star Wars characters available in the new edition and they will be playable in all the Star Wars playsets. Imagine piloting the Millennium Falcon as Kanan! W000t!

"Our big thing too is environments. We wanted to make sure that those iconic moments, especially from 'Empire' showed up for you. Like the Battle of Hoth... we have Tattooine and some speeder racing on Endor. First of all, we wanted to make sure that we did the environment right and that we had them in it there for everybody. So your favourite Star Wars experience is going to be in the game," Jason said.

Jason mentioned that with Star Wars joining in the Disney Infinity universe, there were dimensions added to the games. For instance, with the help of developer Ninja Theory, various lightsabre fighting mechanics were created, and each character has his or her own finishing moves (even Minnie Mouse!). Furthermore, with a fair bit of the stories carried out in different galaxies, the gameplays have an added dimension regarding space flight.

For those who are not into Star Wars, there are the other releases too! There will be a set based on Pixar's latest animated movie "Inside Out", where one can play out their emotions as Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear or Disgust, while Marvel fans might want to jump into the world of "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and battle it out as Ultron or Hulkbuster. Disney Infinity is also launching several new toy characters including Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Mulan, Olaf, Sam Flynn and Quora, as well as introduce different styles of gameplay, which inevitably expands the game possibilities and level of fun.

The Toy Box segment of Disney Infinity 3.0 have also been enhanced with two new multiplayer Toy Box Expansion Games, Toy Box Speedway (kart racing) and Toy Box Takeover (action-adventure).

Jason said that with the new Toy Box (which acts as an open world builder), developers are able to build more interactive and dynamic game models. One new tool is the ability to cut and borrow scenes and voice overs. By using these new tools, there is almost limitless possibilities for create amazing game challengers.

Red Dot Diva asked Jason what his favourite gameplay was, and he said, "Right now it's... I like the Toybox Takeover a lot. I like that you can jump in and out with different characters. My favourite playset is the 'Twilight of the Republic' playset a lot. It's a lot of fun. My favourite characters from Star Wars is actually Ahsoka. I had no idea who that was. She was in the starter pack and I was like, Okayyy.. great. We are going to give that one away 'coz nobody knows who she is. But, she's awesome. She's totally the best character. Her and Kanan from Rebels are my two favourite Star Wars characters in this game right now. Minnie Mouse, also! (Laughter rippled around the auditorium). She uses her purse! To progress in the game, she uses her purse! She's awesome."

All the playsets do look amazing and the gameplays sure look like a whole lot of fun. (But probably too much fun for Red Dot Diva's addictive nature!)

So when will these new Disney Infinity 3.0 playsets be available in Red Dot Island?
Look out for them at your favourite toy stores from 1 September!!

The Disney Infinity 3.0 Starter Park retails at a suggested retail price of S$99.90 and includes the 3.0 base, video game software, the "Star Wars: Twilight of the Republic" play set, Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker character figures and a web code card for unlocking content for PC and mobile devices.
