Red Dot Island this year, "The Ghostbusters" team from the movie reboot will also be making their way here to meet the fans.
As part of the red carpet event, fans are invited to join in the attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the Largest Gathering of People Dressed as Ghosts at a Single Venue.
Not just ordinary ghosts mind you, but as the iconic No-Ghost Sign usually seen as "The Ghostbusters" logo.
Local movie portal Incinemas.SG has the registration webpage for the record-breaking event. If you want to Answer the Call and be one of 300 costumed No-Ghosts, head to this link to register: https://www.incinemas.sg/ghostbusters/.
The No-Ghost costume will be provided to participants at the event, and an image of the costume can be seen on the link above.
Do note that, to be eligible, participants have to be 16 years or older on 12 June 2016.
Date: Sunday, 12 June 2016
Time: 4 PM – 10 PM*
Venue: Marina Bay Sands, Event Plaza (that's the outdoor area where Reed Exhibition held "that other Festival" in April)
* Dinner will be provided to participants
Melissa McCarthy and Paul Feig will be attending the event, and are set to make their appearance at 8 PM.
For those who like being part of history in the making, Red Dot Diva thinks the swag given out to successful candidates as a token of appreciation is pretty cool.
Here's what's in the "The Ghostbusters" stash of goodies, said to be worth over SGD 300:
* A pair of tickets to the preview screening of Ghostbusters
* Ghostbusters drawstring bag
* Ghostbusters cap
* Ghostbusters glow-in-the-dark decal
* Ghostbusters travel cup
* Ghostbusters glow-in-the-dark T-shirt
* Ghostbusters slime-filled notebook
* Ghostbusters event participation certificate
The reboot version of "The Ghostbusters" has received polarizing fan reactions ever since the all-female team was announced. The ghost-busting team in this round consists of new characters, starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, with Chris Hemsworth in the role of their hunky but clueless PA. Directed and written by Paul Feig, together with Katie Dippold as co-writer, the new "Ghostbusters" movie will open in local theatres in 3D and IMAX 3D on July 14.

After watching the various teasers and trailers, Red Dot Diva has to admit that she still has mixed feelings about the upcoming movie. As an older movie geek, she supposes that well-loved images coupled with feelings of nostalgia are hard to get rid of, and the new version may appeal more to the younger crowd who has little or no memory of the original 1984 film by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis.
The Event Plaza is a far more spacious location and Red Dot Diva expects "The Ghostbusters" premiere to be less hectic than "The Other One That Caused a Fan-Apocalypse". Which actually also means that fans may have a better chance of getting close to one of the cast members if the day's affairs are planned well.
It should still be fun time (it will be a Sunday, BTW!) to
gather your geek buddies and head to the red carpet event area for some celebrity gazing, and maybe, target for that coveted selfie or autograph. For hardcore fans, they will be looking at MBS to prove that they can organize a better and more "fan-friendly" red carpet premiere this time round. Else, there may not just be verbal fan outrage. There could very well be an explosion of Ectoplasm this time round.
