Diva Visited GnB Comic's Spanking New Place for Halloween Comics Fest!

Yesterday (29 October 2016), Red Dot Diva visited GnB Comic's spankin' brand new shop at Kitchener Complex for Halloween Comics Fest!

Halloween Comics Fest is an annual worldwide event when free horror comic books are given out to fans of all ages at participating stores. This was also Red Dot Diva's first time attending the celebration.

One of the few comics bookstores existing in Red Dot Island, GnB Comics has been operating at Rochor Centre for several years. Unfortunately, the blocks of old but colourful apartments and shops were marked for demolition, and as that time drew nearer, fans and members of GnB were getting twitchy wondering if the shop will carry on at another site or close its shutters for good.

Then, in late September, a surprise announcement was made on GnB Comics' mobile app. The comic book store has found a new home at Kitchener Complex, which is just a hop and a skip away from Lavender MRT Station! Woohoo!

#TBT: Diva's Biceps Hunt at AsiaPop Comic Con Manila 2015

It's Throwback Thursday! (yes, actually it's Friday here already on Red Dot Island but Red Dot Diva is allowing the slow-pokes to catch-up. :P)

To add on to the occasion, it is also Thanksgiving Day in the U.S.! *gobble gobble*

As the year is winding down to the last 5 weeks, Red Dot Diva looks back on one of her most epic biceps hunt of 2015.

The fabulous haul of biceps happened at Asia Pop Comic Con (APCC) Manila 2015 during a merry September weekend. The pop-culture convention held at the World Trade Centre was the first for the organizers Al Ahli Holding Group, and had a wide range of guests including comic creators, cosplayers, toy designers and celebrities.

With the help of fellow Glam Alliance Bloggers pal, Ed from toysetc as cameraman, the APCC Manila Biceps Hunt was ceremoniously captured on camera.

Post-STGCC 2015: Videos! A Quick Roundup, Greeting From Adam Hughes and Talking Comics Panel!

Was STGCC 2015 a fun weekend for you?

Red Dot Diva had a great time with fellow geeks and friends, despite the haze and a severe bout of exhaustion due to lack of sleep. Also, the convention guests were stellar, especially Agnes Garbowska's, Adam Hughes' and Simone Legno's lines were never-ending, and both worked so hard to sign, chat and sketch for their fans.

Red Dot Diva and Toys-etc's Ed are rushing to head to Manila for AsiaPop Comicon Manila in a few hours. So, here's a post-STGCC round-up.... in video!

STGCC 2015: Adam Hughes Arrives in Singapore! Others Are On Their Way

Master and super-popular artist Adam Hughes was announced as a guest for this year's STGCC a few months back, and comic book fans here have been patiently waiting for the convention weekend to arrive.

The two-day convention will kick off this Saturday 12 September, and earlier today, Adam Hughes and his wife Allison Sohn have finally arrived in Red Dot Island after a super long 20-hour flight from the U.S.A!

The first tweet upon the couple's touchdown was this:

They must have heard about the traditional pre-convention guest dinner, which consists of dishes of local yummies, including the "must-have" chilli crab!

AsiaPop Comic Con Manila 2015: David Mack, C.B. Cebulski, David Yardin, Leinil Yu and More Announced As Guests

With just 3.5 weeks to go, AsiaPop Comic Con Manila announces a long list of fantastic guests for the event that includes several comic book guests and a couple more toy designer guests!

Included in the list of guests announced in this round is one of Red Dot Diva's personal favourites, the multi-talented and very bicepstuous David Mack, creator of the Kabuki series and writer/ artist of Marvel's "Daredevil" and "Daredevil: End of Days".

David has also written a children's book called "Shy Creatures". But the most mesmerizing part of having DMack in a convention show is when he whips out his brushes, paper and ink, and starts drawing live. Biceps flexes included.

Don't believe Red Dot Diva about the biceps? Just view this interview video of DMack and "Fight Club" creator Chuck Palaniuk with CBR.

The Geek Invasion Is Set To Begin In Jakarta At ITGCC!

The success of STGCC has spurred its organizer Reed Exhibitions to extend a similar blend of geeky fun and excitement to Jakarta later this year.

Reed Panorama Exhibitions (RPE) will be launching Indonesia Toy, Games and Comic Convention (ITGCC) at Hall C, JIExpo on 22-23 November 2014. This is the chance for Indonesian fans to get together and celebrate the love of manga, toys, comics, exclusives and collectibles! As in the case in Red Dot Island, the show will give local Indonesian creative folks an avenue to showcase their talent and product. Familiar segments of the show like panels, Walk of Fame and cosplay runways will also be held at ITGCC.

The launch of ITGCC is our next step to unite pop culture fans in Southeast Asia. After seven amazing editions in Singapore, we are glad to be able to bring the same excitement to Indonesia where all of loyal fans will have an opportunity to unite and enjoy the vibrant international content from the East and West,” said Ms Rita Magnus, Senior Manager, Project and Content, Pop Culture Cluster.

STGCC 2011 Media Preview: Cosplay, Comics, Toys!

Presenter Reiko and her shiny hat
Red Dot Diva would be the first to admit that she felt a certain kind of inertia after almost 75% of the STGCC 2011 guest list were officially announced.

There just didn't seem to be a buzz or sense of excitement leading up to this year's event at all.

The vocal reactions from the comic fans have already been well documented by the Straits Times (article by Nicholas Yong) and Here Be Geeks.

Whatever the case may be, Red Dot Diva felt it was worth supporting an event in a market that is already considered small in terms of the worldwide arena. Plus, many of her friends will be at STGCC at their booths displaying their art, or going as cosplayers and fellow bloggers to give their show of support.

Singapore Food Trail and Chesterfest With C.B. Cebulski

C.B. Cebulski holds the long and fancy title of SVP, Creator and Content Development of Marvel Entertainment but he's actually one of the most down-to-earth person Red Dot Diva has ever met.

This is C.B.'s second visit to Red Dot Island as a guest of STGCC. This time, he arrived a few days early so that he could eat his way across the country one more time.

Instead of being brought around various food places by the Singapore Tourism Board, C.B. decided to go local and asked for a small group of island geeks (and geekette) for suggestions.

If one is not already aware, C.B. is a big-time foodie and he aimed to top last year's eating record in of 15 meals in 6 hours which he accomplished together with fellow comic creators, Matt Fraction and Gail Simone. With the HereBeGeeks guys, Melvin Yong, Ryan and moi assisting C.B. with the nom-fest, beating the previous year's record was chicken feed.

With a sub-theme of pop-culture + food, one of the highlights in this year's C2E2 is a special fine-dining date with some fantastic Marvel folks at Topolobampo, owned by Top Chef Master Rick Bayless. The Marvel guests are C.B. Cebulski (VP/ talent scout/ writer/ intrepid foodie), Brian Michael Bendis (comic creator) and Joe Quesada (Chief Creative Officer).

STGCC Squee (Rating) Board

This is Red Dot Diva's current STGCC Squee Board.

One may consider this absolutely inane but as a pop-culture fangirl, Squees are of Utmost Importance.

One simply cannot be a fangirl without knowing the Art of Squeeing. Some do not even realize that one can squee in a rather classy fashion -- not unlike what Red Dot Diva is doing right now.
