AsiaPop Comic Con Manila 2015: An All-Encompassing Sensory Pop-Culture Experience

It has been two weeks since Red Dot Diva and Ed from Toys-etc have returned from AsiaPop Comicon (APCC) Manila, and they are both still suffering from severe withdrawal symptoms. That was how awesome APCC Manila was.

APCC Manila, which ran from 18 to 20 September 2015, was the organizer's first show. Naturally, there were some hiccups and room for improvement, like a possible re-think about Friday's program line-up, more consistent camera men for the photo ops, and better beverage/ snacks service for media room, please. (Press people do need their supply of coffee from the start!) Still, compared to other shows in the region, the convention encompassed a meatier range of Western pop-culture for a true-blooded geek to gnaw on.

There were comics, cosplay, VFX, games, designer toys, LEGO, collectibles, promos of TV shows, movies, and of course the lineup of celebrity guests Paul Bettany, Colton Haynes, Jeremy Shada, Natalie Emmanuel and band Make Out Monday, who fueled the Cacophony of Squees that weekend. Red Dot Diva thought the convention was a much needed breath of fresh air to an overly-saturated anime and pseudo "East vs West" scene over at Red Dot Island.

Hands All Over Maroon 5 - Live in Singapore 2011

Well, Red Dot Diva *wishes* she had pervy hands all over Maroon 5 on April 25th when they were performing live at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

Alas, she was seated 11 rows away at PB10. Which wasn't too bad actually. She had reasonably good "landscape" view of the entire stage and luckily enough, there weren't many tall people standing in front of her.

The last time Maroon 5 was here was at the very same venue in 2008. Back then, Red Dot Diva was disappointed by their lack-lustre and brief 60-minute set. After all the anticipation built up for their first visit to the Red Dot Island, fans couldn't help but leave the stadium feeling short-changed.

Red Dot Diva remembers that the band was late coming on stage and then, played their songs straight-up with little frills that night in 2008. Despite lead singer Adam Levine, looking cool and very confident on stage, they had failed to connect with the crowd very much.

They must have learnt something important from that tour.

Ingrid's Linkin Park Experience in Brisbane

Words… they fail me. Well, almost.

So where to start?

My memories and thoughts are jumbled so it is hard to figure out where everything really started and ended.

The first thing I remember was arriving at the venue, The Brisbane Entertainment Center on 3rd December, and checking into the cloak room. I was organizing everything I needed, including the Christmas presents (Australian Animal shot glasses for the band) and cards I had picked out earlier that day for the band. I also had a beautiful and masculine Sagittarius Necklace for Linkin Park member, Brad’s birthday.

Jess (one of my best friends - you will hear about her in this account) and I packed away and clocked in our things, passed security proceeding to bolt up the stairs to the volunteering area where we met up with Lyndon. Lyndon, who is not much older than me, is head volunteer for the Music For Relief (MFR) booth. He did a head count, only about 9 of us - Jess and I being the only girls.
